CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY

The Salt Lake City Library Board endorses the following code of conduct as presented to patrons, staff and volunteers:

It is the purpose of the Salt Lake City Library to provide free, open and equal access to ideas and information to all members of the community. To accomplish this purpose, a code of conduct is provided to assist staff, volunteers and patrons in promoting safe, healthy and barrier-free access to all the resources and facilities the system has to offer. The code is designed to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy and applies to all patrons, volunteers and staff while on library property.

Procedural Processes

The City Library has drafted several procedural documents to assist staff in implementing the written policy.  Those procedures can be found here on the Procedure Manual site.

  • Library Suspension Guide - is a matrix of specific infractions as described in the Code of Conduct policy and the length of suspension of library privileges per each infraction or repeat of said infraction.
  • Code of Conduct User Manual - intended to assist staff when enforcing our code of conduct. It contains go-to-phases as well as systemized language that can help all staff stay consistent in implementing library rules of behavior.
  • Unattended Children and Vulnerable Adult procedure - outlines the specific conditions when library staff will intervene with unattended children and vulnerable adults and the actions to take if deemed necessary.
