Weeding Priorities

Weeding is a crucial part of maintaining attractive, relevant, and representative collections. Because no library has the space to keep every book, conscientious weeding is necessary to maintain shelf space for new items while keeping our stacks attractive and easy to navigate. The following priorities are designed to be used as general guidelines. Keep in mind that each location has its own unique population and needs.  Please reference the Weeding Priorities document for further details.

First: Broken and Unattractive

Second: Outdated

Third: Redundant

Fourth: Low Circulation Statistics

Before you get to weeding these items, please consult your Weeding Procedures Document. Please check to make sure you are not weeding the last copy in our system, an item of particular local interest, an item that has been in the collection for less than a year or an item that represents a historically marginalized group. If a book meets one of these criteria but still needs to be weeded, please bring it to the librarian in charge of the collection.
