Our Weeding Procedure - the detailed process for how to remove an item that has been identified to be weeded and an additional set of considerations that need to be applied to items being considered for weeding.
The full and current procedure can be found here.
The process covers in detail the procedures for broken or unattractive items, items with low circulation statistics, and outdated or redundant items. The document also defines when not to weed a particular item, as well as things to consider before weeding.
At the bottom of the document are tables for suggested weeding timelines by location and collection. If an item hasn’t circulated for the following periods of time, (or is an AV material that has one of the following specified Circ counts), it may be a candidate for weeding. Please note, each branch and collection is unique and should be treated as thus. Negotiate timelines with the Librarian managing each collection.
To see who is currently in charge of specific collection responsibilities by location, please review the Key SLCPL Collection Responsibilities document here.
